Last night, the Postgraduate Art Auction celebrated its anniversary by raising a record amount from the Lethaby Gallery’s 370+ guests

Gavel in hand, Henry Howard-Sneyd, Sotheby’s Head of Asian Art, led the evening’s Live Auction. Filled with generous donations from some of the UK’s most acclaimed artists including Grayson Perry, Mona Hatoum and Raqib Shaw, the Live Auction alone raised a record-breaking £37,620.

Donations from over 60 postgraduate Art programme students lined the walls of the gallery while guests placed bids on their favourite pieces. As Alex Schady, Art Programme Director, announced the final countdown and bidding drew to a close, things started to get a little competitive…

In between bidding, there were performances by MA Art and Science and MA Photography students. From readings to sound and movement pieces, the performances offered the evening’s guests a further taste of postgraduate art at Central Saint Martins.

Raising an unprecedented amount for the postgraduate students’ fund and welcoming more guests than ever before, the evening was a huge success. Congratulations and thank you to all those involved: the artists and students for donating their work, the generous bidders and our sponsor Daniel Ford International. We’re already looking forward to next year’s auction!
