Last night, friends, staff and students gathered together for the Postgraduate Art Auction in an extraordinary show of generosity and support of arts education.

This year’s auction raised a record-breaking £51,830 in support of the Postgraduate Fine Art Programme. Comprising donations from Antony Gormley, Mona Hatoum, Mark Titchner, Yinka Shonibare, the Chapman brothers and Paula Rego among others, the live auction was directed by auctioneer Adrian Biddell with humour and a decisive gavel to raise over £40,000. The companion Silent Auction presented over 80 works by current postgraduate art students with everyone invited to make their bids until the evening came to a close with a countdown led by Alex Schady, Programme Director of Fine Art.

It is impossible to adequately acknowledge the generosity of the artists in our annual postgraduate auction. It is such an extraordinary gesture, to gift your artwork in the service of others and in the best interests of a future generation.”
Paul Haywood, Dean of Academic Programmes, Central Saint Martins

This was the eleventh edition of the auction and has raised more than ever before for the postgraduate students’ fund directly supporting both the upcoming MA Interim Show and the student-led events within next year’s degree show. Congratulations and thank you to all those involved: the artists and students for donating their work, the generous bidders and our sponsor Daniel Ford International.
