In this season of Central Saint Martins Shows 2023 celebrating the inspiration, energy and creative intelligence of our graduating students, we’re excited to publish the nominations for this year's MullenLowe NOVA Awards for Fresh Creative Talent. This year, 52 student nominations present projects across art, design, fashion, architecture, materials and performance.

Themes of home, spaces and loss highlight other ways of being, such as the erasure of colour common to the immigrant experience and the west’s broken relationship to the land, while we learn about respectful indigenous practices, languages and design.

Expanding form and function using natural materials, we encounter bacterial data that uses living organisms to store, represent and display data, and bacterial melanin developed for use in photoprotection.

We see a going back to the fabric of fashion, looking at ways to create new and otherworldly experiences from previously worn garments or leaving space for the next creation as part of the design approach.

Our students share a future in which we make innovative use of the properties of algae - through living, bioactive furniture that can grow microalgae to improve our environment and health, and algae-powered devices for gobbling up carbon as we offset the impact of human and digital production.

New digital environments and explorations at the intersection between human and machine both offer the means to create or to experience new cognitive, online or spiritual experiences. And expect plenty of explorations in the social and personal, examining body, mind, spirit, connection, and the shared human experience.

Congratulations to this year's nominated students:
