Twenty one graduating students sent their final collections down the runway in the Central Saint Martins MA Fashion SHOW 2024 on Friday 16 February, on schedule at London Fashion Week.

Two students took home awards in what is London Fashion Week’s fortieth year. The L’Oréal Professionnel Creative Award judged by Perfect Magazine Founder, Editor & Creative Director Katie Grand went to Drhuv Bandil, MA Fashion: Womenswear. The Canada Goose HUMANNATURE award for responsible design, judged by Canada Goose President Juliette Striechenberger and designer Mira Mikati went to Gracey Owusu-Agyemang.

Dhruv's collection is named AWAKENING KAKANMATH KALAVATIS.

"Indian countryside has many archaeological sites dwelling with divinity. Through the collection I want to give rebirth to the energy I have experienced during my visits, especially the one to Kakanmath. I am awakening the energy by realizing it in the form of "Art Addicts", it is an alternate reality which has always been there for me." Drhuv Bandil

Recipient of The British Fashion Council Foundation MA Final Year Scholarship, Gracey Owusu-Agyemang's SONWERÊLD is informed by Afrofuturism and materialised through the lens of agriculture.

“For the Sonwêreld collection I used only natural fibres and natural botanical dyes. The fabrics I used were pure hemp, hemp denim, organic cotton, regenerative cotton, regenerative wool and hemp linen, which were all sustainably & ethically sourced with 100% Traceability. For dyes I used natural indigo (w/ alum mordant), Red onions (w/ iron water) & cutch (w/ iron water) on pure hemp and hemp/cotton blends materials.”  Gracey Owusu-Agyemang

"The Essence of growing my own cotton regeneratively is to attract the youth into practising agriculture and so being recognised for such a prestigious award that rewards responsible design is gonna be game changing for those, younger & older,  that want to enter the fashion industry. I think it’s a right direction that the industry needs to see, we need more designers actively changing the fashion industry by measures of intentionality in every decision, from fibre to fastening—Traceability!"

Writing in Vogue, Sarah Mower said:

What is the secret sauce of the Central Saint Martins MA—the crucible that produced Alexander McQueen (class of 1992), and, a generation later, Sean McGirr (class of 2014), who’s now in the McQueen hot seat, as well as a hundreds-strong alum diaspora of independent London designers and team specialists at work across planet fashion? In a nutshell—a point that shines out in defiance of Brexit Britain and small-minded politics—it’s the diversity of student talent it draws from, the individuals who Professor Fabio Piras and his academic team put together to spark off one another, while each manifests what’s uniquely important to them.

SHOW/SHOWROOM continued over the next three days, with forty individual student looks going on display at the Lethaby Gallery. Daily performances by students at the Central School of Ballet interpreted the garments through contemporary dance.
