Short animated film The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, winner of a BAFTA and four Annie Awards, is now up for an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film at the 2023 Academy Awards.
This “story of kindness, friendship, courage and hope for viewers of all ages”, is a tale closely connected to CSM MA Character Animation - with more than a dozen alumni helping to bring Charlie Mackesy’s book into production:

The BAFTA-winner for Best British Animated Short and Annie Award winner Best Special Production, Best Character Animation, Best Direction and Best Editorial was produced by JJ Abrams company ‘Bad Robot’. It came out in 2022 and aired at Christmas on the BBC and Apple TV.
Mackesy’s illustrations are brought to life in full colour through hand-drawn animation, and the film stars BAFTA Award winner Tom Hollander as The Mole, SAG Award winner Idris Elba as The Fox, Golden Globe Award winner Gabriel Byrne as The Horse and Jude Coward Nicoll as The Boy.
The 95th Academy Awards 2023 will be announced on Sunday 12 March.
