At the 2014 International Creative Pattern Design Competition, recent Central Saint Martins graduate Amber Roper scooped the Best Material Creative award.

Amber studied BA Textile Design at the College, specialising in the craft of hand weaving. After graduating, Amber was selected as a finalist for the 2014 International Creative Pattern Design Competition.

The competition – which is held in Hangzhou, China – received over 400 entries from around the world. Of these, Amber was the only candidate from Great Britain shortlisted to present her collection as one of final 30 exhibitors.

Amber’s degree show collection, entitled The Changeover – Modern Samurai, was recognised for its highly innovative and individual use of traditional and experimental materials. With her collection placed in the top three, she received one of the competition’s grand prizes as well as the award for Best Material Creative.

Since graduating in June 2014, Amber has been working as a weave designer for menswear shirting company David Howard. She has also been invited back to China, where she will be exhibiting a new collection of woven textiles at the China Academy of Art in 2015.
