Congratulations to CSM staff and graduates who have been recognised for their contributions to education and creativity in the New Year’s Honour List. They include:

  • Textile and print tutor Natalie Gibson who has been awarded an MBE for her services to print and textile design. BA Fashion Course Leader Willie Walters had this to say of her colleague:

“In our current world of hyperbole where the epithet ‘iconic’ is cast around liberally, Natalie Gibson shines out as a dazzlingly original and wholly charismatic designer and educator who has been influencing students since she started teaching at St Martins during the 1960s. Natalie founded the Fashion Print Course at Central Saint Martins in 1981 and has nurtured hundreds of students from all corners of the globe; print/fashion designers who now work in every notable fashion house across the world as well as creative directors from Sarah Burton to Craig Green.”

  • Phoebe Philo, graduate of BA Fashion and a highly-rated designer and Creative Director for Celine, receives an OBE.
  • Antony Gormley who studied at CSM in the ’70s receives a knighthood for his contribution to the arts including such works as Another Place and Angel of the North.
  • Furniture designer and retailer Zeev Aram is awarded an OBE.
