Grace Wales Bonner caused quite a stir at last year’s BA Fashion catwalk show. Her sartorial exploration of European opulence and black identity won her the L’Oreal Professionnel Designer of the Year Award.
Now, excitement is growing for the 23-year-old graduate’s new AW15 collection. It shows next week as part of the Fashion East presentation at London Collections: Men.
Building a narrative
Dazed previously picked out Grace as one of our most promising graduates. Now, the magazine has done an in-depth interview with the designer.
Speaking to Dazed, Grace said: “I have tried to mix couture techniques with specific African crafts and that is definitely something I am developing more this season – trying to make a hybrid between different techniques.
“[…] As a designer I would love to make each collection build on the last, creating a story in which each collection relates to each other and is expressed in some narrative order.”
