Please can you tell me a little bit about yourself? 

I am Vanshaj Kumar, and I proudly hail from the culturally rich and historically profound land of art and heritage, India. In essence, I embody a unique combination of being a creative soul, a natural aesthete, and someone with a deep appreciation for Art, Technology and Culture. My vivid imagination allows me to uncover the inherent uniqueness in seemingly mundane aspects that may go unnoticed by others.

Why did you choose to study Applied Imagination at Central Saint Martins (CSM)?

Central Saint Martins (CSM) is a renowned institution that attracts aspiring creative individuals from around the world. It was truly an honour for me to be a student at this prestigious college. CSM has a proven track record of transforming students into professional masterpieces, with each individual achieving unique and remarkable accomplishments.

One of the aspects that sets CSM apart is its commitment to providing a creative environment that goes beyond traditional teaching methods. The college understands that learning extends beyond books and lectures. Instead, it embraces a holistic approach that emphasizes industrial exposure and creative practices.

At CSM, I found myself immersed in a dynamic and vibrant atmosphere where innovation and experimentation were encouraged. The curriculum was designed to foster creativity, pushing students to explore new ideas, take risks, and think outside the box. Through hands-on projects, collaborations, and industry partnerships, CSM ensured that students gained practical experience and developed a deep understanding of the creative industries."

What have you been working on since graduating? 

In a Creative and strategic role, I work in the Digital/e-commerce sector. I have a strong inclination towards continuous learning and exploring my creativity and imagination.

I have developed a deep passion for learning, and I genuinely enjoy being a student. UAL has played a significant role in nurturing my curiosity and providing me with a platform to acquire new knowledge and skills. In future, I wholeheartedly embrace my goal of investing my efforts in pursuing & establishing a creative career in the digital fashion, music, food, or art sectors.

What was the most interesting project you worked on during your time on the course? 

Our lecturers and industry mentors have continuously supported me during my master's program. I have worked on a Research towards the “Development of a Digital Bridge to connect Artisans with the Fashion and Film industries.

What important piece of advice would you give to students thinking of studying this course?

The University of the Arts London provides students with numerous opportunities to explore and develop their potential. It serves as an excellent platform for students to discover their talents and establish a strong foundation for their future endeavours. I highly recommend that all students take full advantage of the chance to interact with mentors, industry professionals, and guest speakers.

The university has a well-designed structure that places equal emphasis on learning, industry exposure, and creative practices. Each assignment serves as an opportunity for personal growth, helping students develop essential skills and preparing them for the professional world.

What was the highlight of your Central Saint Martins experience?

Studying at UAL has truly been a transformative experience, allowing me to not only refine my existing skills but also embrace new challenges and thrive in a constantly evolving creative landscape.

What is the most important thing you learnt on the course?

Studying at the CSM, University of the Arts London has not only allowed me to tap into my hidden potential but has also equipped me with the skills to engage with industries and explore various opportunities and projects. Despite having a decade of work experience in digital and creative industries, UAL has consistently encouraged me to push beyond my existing knowledge and contribute unique perspectives.
