Biography

I am an architect, design researcher, and I teach Architecture at Central Saint Martins and at the London School of Architecture. Prior to this, I was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Westminster, School of Architecture and Cities.

After completing my architectural education at the Bartlett School of Architecture, I have worked for a number of award winning practices in London for ten years. I have co-founded the inter-disciplinary practice Our Building Design (in 2018) and the charity Mannan Foundation Trust. Current projects use methods of engaging with under-represented communities in an unique way, to co-create architectural responses. I utilise design practice to be an active agent of socio-spatial decolonisation for environmental, climate and spatial justice. My practice-based research focuses on community participatory design methods on architectural responses to the changing climate, landscape and social practices, in the UK and in Bangladesh.

My work has been exhibited internationally including at the Building Centre, (in London) and at the National University of Singapore, in 2018. In 2019 I was awarded the Global Challenges Research Fund at the University of Westminster, to continue my ongoing research to develop architectural responses to the changing climate; making, sharing and communicating design processes. For this research, I was awarded the RIBA President's Award for Research 2019 (commendation).

Other awards include RIBA-J Rising Star (winner 2017), RIBA BAME award (winner in 2019), SEED/PacificRim Award (winner in 2018) and Architecture Sans Frontiers Award (commendation in 2017).

I have authored several online journals and a chapter in the book ‘Monsoon Grounds’ (2020) by Monsoon Assemblages.

I am the founder of FAME collective, which is a research-network established to expose the barriers in architecture and also to celebrate the successes of Female Architects of Minority Ethnic. I have been awarded the RIBA Research Funds (2020), for this research project.

My other advisory role include being a panel member of the Design Review Panel for the Southwark Council Planning Department.
