My first job after graduation was with Swanky Modes in Camden Town, two and a half years there. I took part in the Swanky Extravaganza ‘Seams like a Dream’.
I also met Jasper Conran, who was just starting up and had a very wide experience with him, working on knitwear, shoes, swimwear, private commissions, as well as running the sample room, designing and cutting the jersey collections and spec’ing the collections as they processed through. I was with him for 15 years.
This depth of experience stood me in good stead when I was introduced to Maia Norman, and we started Mother of Pearl, where I stayed for seven years. I ran the company, and designed, sampled and produced the collections. Before and during the MoP years I had also been teaching at Central Saint Martins and now very happily run the first year pathways.
