I studied fashion design at St Martin’s School of Art (now Central Saint Martins), graduating in 1980.
During my career I have been fashion editor/director of Blitz, The Evening Standard, Harpers & Queen, The Times and Elle, while contributing to various publications including New Musical Express, New York Times and Vogue. I won the Fashion Journalist of The Year Award two years running in 1995 and 1996.
A respected fashion writer, I am the author of 'Bill Gibb, Fashion and Fantasy' and most recently 'Foale and Tuffin: The Sixties. A Decade in Fashion.' I work as a consultant at the Fashion Museum in Bath and am a visiting lecturer at Central Saint Martins, London College of Fashion and Royal College of Art, London.
In May 2005 I was honoured with a Professorship at the University of Arts London (Central Saint Martins), in recognition of my distinction in the field of fashion.
As Creative Director of orangesnowstore, a concept gallery boutique, I have recently returned to my design roots. Currently I'm working on a new book project (commissioned by ACC Publishing), a personal photographic portfolio spanning three decades that documents the glittering brouhaha surrounding the ready-to-wear and haute couture fashion collections in New York, London, Milan and Paris.
