...and They All Lived Happily Ever After

“My degree show work responds to a exceptional incident that occurred in February 2012 regarding the attempted suicide of my 23 year old son. Mapping, recording and responding to both the event and the sequence of events that occurred as a result of this emotionally challenging experience informs my work.

A mother’s love for her children and the need to protect them unleashes fear, pain, helplessness and hope.  Exploration using clay as both a cathartic tool, a means of expression and the recording of the narrative makes up my body of work, culminating in a collection of vessels, representing the emotional upheaval of the last four torturous months. These vessels also highlight the lack of support for teenagers with suicidal tendencies and raise awareness of the illness.  A narrative portfolio and a small book of events accompanies the accessible vessels paying particular attention to dates and events of importance that have helped shape and transform these vessels from their origin”.
