The question of how art might shift or re-inflect habitual ways of thinking is a live question for me as an artist and teacher. The interface between such an aspiration and the building of a practice is shared and explored through dialogue with students and their own emerging practices. The role of intuition and how one learns to work productively with this is pivotal to our discussions.
I studied at Goldsmith’s College University of London (MA in Fine Art) and have exhibited both nationally and internationally (including Matt’s Gallery London, Hayward Gallery London, Stadthaus Ulm Germany).
Through installation and live event my work seeks to involve viewers, participants, and passersby in an awareness of themselves as active, shifting subjectivities. A concern with ‘spaces of relation’; receptivities and agencies of bodies, entities and matter underpins my explorations of space, process, context, materials, performativity and authorship. I work concurrently across projects so that idea threads can jump and feed each other.
An ongoing project involving early 20th century architecture in which women have played a significant role has included making a video in the Rietveld Schroder House in Utrecht 2015 as well as a planned shoot in Eileen Gray’s Villa E1027
A residency at the Mothership, Dorset (2016) involved working with and in a local forest. Mixed media installational work across video, painting, audio and sculpture, as well as a planned live event in the forest is in process, fed by research into what I feel is a contemporary need to rethink our own entanglement with the ecosystem.
