Biography

Gunjan Gupta graduated from MA Design; Furniture with her Dining Throne, a 18ct gold and silver wrapped chair range. To achieve this, she had collaborated with North Indian Master craft communities in order to develop her Wrap, her MA masters project.

Launched by Gupta at 100% Design, London in 2006 to critical success the Wrap Dining Throne formed the basis to develop Wrap Art & Design, India's first globally recognised luxury furniture and product design studio.

Wrap marries a traditional Indian craft, often on the verge of obsolescence with contemporary design for an international luxury market. Wrap's philosophy of sustainable luxury is a mix of austerity and audacity, restraint and abundance. The designs are at once sculptural and cultural with superlative qualities of handcraft that have become integral to the Wrap design identity. Wrap is committed to sustainable materials and principles as well as high-end artisanship.

The Wrap Collection of Gold and Silver Thrones was showcased at the Cheongju Craft Biennale in 2009 in the company of the world's most famous examples of contemporary craft in the 21st Century.

Gunjan's efforts in advocating for India’s handmade and craft industries through her own practice and in repositioning the Made in India brand internationally have won her global recognition that includes several Elle Decor International Design Awards and The British Council's Young Creative Entrepreneur finalist in 2007. She has curated the India design exhibition at the Experimenta Design Biennale, Lisbon in 2009.

In 2012, Gunjan was named Designer of the Year by Elle Décor as well as being included in Fortune Magazine's five names to watch in luxury.

Gunjan lives and works in New Delhi.
