Mahalia is an interdisciplinary artist and designer. She holds a BA in Interior Architecture and a MArch in Design for Performance and Interaction. She has worked for several years in design studios, on work including spatial and cartographic design to user experience and interface design.
Intrigued by exploring the materiality and malleability of technology, Mahalia considers computational thinking and algorithms as a framework that can be applied in all kinds of creative practice with a particular interest in what happens when our physical embodied experience of the world collides and intertwines with the digital.
She has exhibited work at Tate Britain, Old Truman Brewery and Ars Electronica and she has performed at Algoraves where she uses live coding as an experimental tool in crafting visual experiences.
Before joining UAL’s Creative Computing Institute, Mahalia taught at University for the Creative Arts, leading a studio involved in the reimagining of architectural design through incorporating and embedding technology to develop 'hybrid spaces' that challenge traditional understanding of the built environment.
