Biography

Professor Lawrence Zeegen is Interim Director of Creative Computing Institute, University of the Arts London. Spanning an academic career over 35 years, Lawrence has led creative departments, schools and faculties at many of the UK’s most prominent universities including Birmingham City University, University of Brighton, Kingston University London, Ravensbourne University London and at London College of Communication, University of the Arts London. Lawrence has lectured internationally in over 25 countries.

As Professor of Illustration Lawrence is author of nine published books on graphic arts, including Fifty Years of Illustration and Ladybird by Design and is contributor to numerous publications. His digital illustration practice includes work with major international newspapers, magazines, book publishers, design studios and advertising agencies.

Lawrence is a graduate of Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London and the Royal College of Art and he is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a trustee of both the De La Warr Pavilion and Creative Conscience and a former trustee of D&AD. Lawrence has twice been appointed to the Executive Board of ico-D, the International Council of Design.

With his research having shifted from the history and practice of graphic arts and illustration to the study of Generation Alpha, Lawrence’s consultancy work in recent years has focussed on advising and preparing organisations for Gen Alpha’s emergence and the consequent changes required to embrace their ambitions and aspirations and empower them creatively.
