Biography

Miriam Elgon is an illustrator, artist, designer and educator.

Her work encompasses drawing, painting, printmaking, weaving and surface design.

Within these areas, she is interested in projecting herself into different times and places, imagining herself as other people through inhabiting existing narratives and creating her own.

The ideas behind her narratives grow from a wide range of sources in film, theatre, music and history. This range has been enriched by working in the collections department of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and training in cultural heritage at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

In recent projects, she has collaborated with dance company Meredith-Bruno, independent arts publisher ‘Studio Operative’ and private individuals on commissions for the home. She was highly commended by Faber Childrens and the Andlyn Literary Agency in their inaugural Faber Andlyn BAME (FAB) Prize.

She has worked in arts education with people of various ages and backgrounds, holding positions in organisations and charities such as The Sorrell Foundation at Somerset House. She has previously lectured in Illustration at Norwich University of the Arts and University for the Creative Arts Farnham.
