Practical Media Relations Short Course

Course description

Get insight into building effective and mutually beneficial relationships with journalists. You'll learn about both reactive and proactive media relations so by the end of the course you'll know how to respond effectively to enquiries from journalists and how to gain coverage for your stories.

This course is ideal if you have just started out in your career. It's a workshop style course and you'll contribute your ideas to group discussions and take part in writing exercises.

Course Outcomes
By the end of this course you should be able to:

  • know how to target relevant media
  • understandwhat makes a good news story

Who Should Attend

This course is perfect for you if you are new to working in a communications or PR role, or are looking to start a career in media relations

Level
Beginner: This course is perfect for those with little or no knowledge of media relations.

  • As long as you attend a minimum of 80% of your classes, we will provide you with a certificate of attendance. 
  • We always recommend you attend all of the classes so that you get the most out of the experience! 
  • Certificates are great to complement your cv. 

This course is scheduled to run on campus in a face-to-face delivery format. Please note that due to the ongoing pandemic situation this course may be adapted in line with UK government guidance or other operational requirements. This may include changing course location (to another UAL site), cancellation of the course, or moving part or all of the course online. In the event of any changes being required we will inform you as soon as possible and support you in any changes required.
