We run a variety of short courses across 19 different subject areas. Our courses are delivered both online and face to face in classroom settings.
UAL Short Courses are for all ages and abilities. We also offer a range of onsite and online courses for kids and teenagers, including our short format Future Creatives classes at locations across the UK.
Choosing a short course
Our short courses are designed for many different levels of skill and experience. You can find out what level of experience is recommended for your course by referring to the specific course page. If a level is not specified then the course is mixed ability, which means that both beginners and more experienced people are welcome to attend.
All our tutors are experienced in teaching a wide range of people and understand the practical needs of the business. Tutors range from those teaching on full-time degree courses at UAL to graduates and professionals who have gone on to develop their expertise outside the college and within the industry. Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for UAL Short Courses. We may advise a certain level of pre-existing knowledge for some courses. This will be clearly stated in the course description.
All classes are taught in English. Applicants whose first language is not English should note that they are required to be proficient in written and spoken English and be able to participate in group discussions and presentations in English. As a guideline, we would expect you to have an IELTS score of 4.5 for practical courses and 6.0 for lecture courses unless specified, but this is not something we check or request when booking a course. The University of the Arts London also offers English courses for overseas students. Please contact the Language Centre for more information.
Certificates and qualifications
Completing a short course does not offer credit or a recognised qualification - although you will receive a certificate of attendance.
Over the next academic year, we will be introducing Digital Credentials (Badges and Certificates) to UAL Short Courses. Digital Badges are similar to an online certificate, an indicator of accomplishment or skill that can be displayed, accessed and verified online. Read more about our digital badges and credentials.
Discounts and concessions
The cost of taking part in a short course is the same for everyone, whether you are a student, working, unemployed, retired or from overseas. We cannot offer concessions on the course fees. UAL does not currently offer any scholarships to short course students.
If you are a UAL Alumni, UAL Postgraduate and UAL Undergraduate student you are entitled to a 10% discount on courses under £1000. If the course fees are greater than £1000, we will deduct £100 from the advertised course fee. To receive this code, simply email the short course customer service team ualshortcourses@arts.ac.uk and quote your alumni/student ID number along with the course you wish to book. A member of the team will get back to you with a discount code for booking. If you need to register for an alumni ID number, please email alumni-association@arts.ac.uk for more details.
If you receive a discount code it can be applied when prompted at the checkout or by contacting our Customer Service Team, ualshortcourses@arts.ac.uk, at the time of booking. For courses with fees greater than £1000 the maximum discount of £100 will be applied.

Feedback and complaints
All students that complete a short course will be sent a feedback survey to submit within 24 hours following the last day of their course. Feedback is important to us and will help improve the delivery of exciting and engaging courses.
If you have concerns or difficulties while studying with UAL Short Courses and wish to make a formal complaint, please let us know by submitting a Short Courses Student Complaint form.
Most concerns can be resolved easily by talking to your tutors and other members of the Short Courses staff.
