Summer 2022

These courses are ideal for you if want to:

  • improve your English in an art and design setting,
  • get to know London in the summer -  from hip local neighbourhoods, to galleries and greenspaces,
  • experience life as a student at a world-leading University for art, design, fashion, communication and performing arts.

  • Monday 4 July - Friday 29 July, 2022
  • Monday 8 August - Friday 2 September, 2022

English level

This course has 2 levels:


Equivalent to:

  • CEFR A2-B1
  • Pre-intermediate / lower-intermediate
  • IELTS 4.5-5


Equivalent to:

  • CEFR B1+-B2
  • Intermediate / upper-intermediate
  • IELTS 5.5 +

If you have a valid English language test, submit it with your application. You do not need an IELTS score to apply.

If you don’t have a valid English language test, don’t worry. We’ll be in touch about alternative ways you can check your English language level.

Course description

On these 4-week courses you will:

  • study General English using art and design resources and topics including fashion, art, photography, communications, and architecture,
  • create art, design or media projects,
  • improve your vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation skills,
  • develop your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills,
  • learn about British culture and get to know London like a local,
  • take part in trips around London including museums and galleries,
  • get involved in UAL student life through social events and activities.

Course assessment

At the end of the course you will be assessed on your final project. You will be given feedback and receive a Record of Study and Achievement certificate with your grades for this project.

Hours a week

20 hours a week for 12 weeks.

  • 10am – 2.45pm GMT Monday to Friday.
    • This includes a 45 minute break.
