Intermediate Steel Sculpture Workshop

During this course you will concentrate on a single project to be completed within the week, this could mean a self initiated project or a more experimental approach discussed and aided by the course tutor. Suitable for those with some previous metalworking/sculpture/making experience, or those following on from the Metal and Sculpture course, this course will recap MIG welding techniques as well as plasma cutting, steel sheet bending, rolling and forging.

The course will begin with a mandatory Health and Safety induction with each following day having a unique workshop process being demonstrated. Thereafter, students are supervised on their self initiated practice.

Entry requirements
Ideally previous knowledge and experience in metalwork. This course does follow on from the Metal and Sculpture course.

Tutor Description

David Stewart Studied Fine art Sculpture BA (Hons) at Leicester Polytechnic. He received a scholarship from Royal College of Art to study in Italy and has taught on BA Fine Art at the University of Wolverhampton. His commissions and residencies include; Grizedale Forest, Cumbria, NESL Shipyard Site in Sunderland Enterprise Park, Poustinia Sculpture Park, Belize and Hinode Forest, Tokyo. He has also exhibited Metal and stone sculpture extensively in UK, Europe, and Japan.


Please bring the following with you to the first session:

  • Boiler suit or similar work wear
  • Tough boots

Other Health and Safety protective wear provided.
