We're delighted you're considering UAL as an exchange option! As an exchange student from one of our partner universities, you'll be able to study with us for one term. By studying with us on exchange, you'll be able to:

  • live in one of the world's most diverse cities
  • immerse yourself in your field of study
  • receive a tuition fee-waiver as part of the exchange agreement.

The steps below outline how to apply to UAL as an exchange student. Check you're eligible to apply for an exchange before you submit an application.

1. Confirm your eligibility

  • Confirm your institution is a UAL partner. If there is no exchange agreement, you may be able to come for a term via UAL Study Abroad.
  • You must have approval from your home university to study on exchange at UAL. Contact your home university’s international office for more information on the steps to go on exchange.

UAL has agreed with its partners a series of objective criteria for incoming students:

  • Year of study: equivalent or above to the year of study requested at UAL.
  • Field of study: equivalent to the field of study requested at UAL.
  • English proficiency: English language ability recommended to the equivalent of B2 level.

2. Prepare your documents

As part of your application, UAL College teams may ask for certain documents. This could include:

  • A personal statement (maximum 500 words).
  • A Curriculum Vitae (CV) / Resume- this should detail any education, work or training that you have completed to date.
  • Academic Transcript
  • A portfolio if you are applying to a practice-based course. Check out our tips on how to prepare your portfolio.
  • Passport Photo Page

3. Apply online

Once your home university have approved the exchange, they will contact UAL. UAL’s College Mobility team will then contact you directly with the online application and other important details.

The deadline to submit your UAL exchange application is:

  • Autumn exchanges: 15 April
  • Spring exchanges: 15 October

Late applications will not be accepted- start your application as early as possible and allow enough time to complete it.

PhD students: contact the College you are interested directly via your research group.

You will need to send your formal acceptance of our offer within 1 week.

Please don't make financial commitments towards the exchange until you have received confirmation of your place of study at UAL. Read our guide to prepare for your exchange.
