Thousands of people come to Central Saint Martins during the end-of-year shows to see the work of our graduating students and meet them. It’s a wonderful time in the College calendar, but also the busiest time for the building, so it’s important that we all understand ticketing, times, dates and who to contact with queries.

Key dates for Show Two: Design

10-17 June: Wristband collection for graduating students (please collect from reception during normal working hours)

18 June: Private View

19-23 June: Show open to the public (12-8pm on weekdays and 12-6pm on weekends)

Risk Assessments (RAMS)

Each student showing work should produce a Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS) for their Degree Show exhibit to demonstrate that they understand the risks that are created by their piece during installation; the show; and the take down. Your tutor will provide RAMS templates for you in advance of the show build. Once complete, these RAMS should be sent to your Tutor/area leader for approval.

PAT testing small electrical items

If your degree show display includes electrical items, they will need to be PAT tested before they are installed. PAT testing is designed to check the wiring of electrical equipment for any defects that could be dangerous. Defective wiring can increase the risk of electric shock and electrical fires. The most common items in the degree shows are:

  • Projectors
  • Laptops/iPad/tablets with chargers
  • TVs/monitors
  • Extension cables
  • DVD players

Log your request for PAT testing here: PAT Register Form

Fill out all relevant fields on the form, then bring any items that need to be PAT tested to the following locations at these times:

  • During term time: Mondays 1pm – 3pm outside the staff club (F004)
  • Outside term time: Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays 1pm – 3pm in the LTS Office (K002)

Please avoid mounting or fixing your items in place before they are tested, because the PAT tester will need to do a visual inspection of the item. In exceptional circumstances where your item is too difficult to move or there is a large group with multiple items to be tested, you can request that the PAT tester visit you. Please speak to your tutor about this, and ask them to contact csmpattesting@arts.ac.uk.

Student Helpers

If you would like to bring volunteers into the college to help you build your degree show display, please complete the Student Helper Permission Request Form (PDF 61KB) and submit it to your Course Leader. If you would like to bring in paid contractors, they must complete their own risk assessment and method statement (RAMS) and submit this to estateshelpdesk@arts.ac.uk for approval.

Apply for funding to help with your Degree Show

The University Hardship Fund is available to students with Home fee status, on any undergraduate or postgraduate course in 2018/19. This is a means-tested hardship grant to assist with study costs. It is not a loan and does not need to be repaid. Please read the full eligibility requirements on the application form.

Private View Timings - Tuesday 18 June

If you are not exhibiting in the shows, please vacate the building by 5pm. All workshops and studios will be closed at this time. If you have booked a ticket for the Private View, you will be able to re-enter the building for the event from 6pm. If you are exhibiting in the shows, your wristband will enable you to remain in the building past 5pm.

The Collectors’ View (3.30-6pm) is a moment of relative calm before the Private View. Guests invited to this viewing are often shown around the Degree Show by staff, it is advised for you to be near your work during this time.

The Private View finishes at 9pm.

The building will close at 10pm. The show spaces will lock down 10 minutes after the building closes at 10pm. If staff or students need to stay in their show space beyond this time, please let security or an usher know in advance.

If the building reaches capacity, there will be a one-in-one-out policy. This may also apply to small spaces throughout the building with limited capacity.

Private View wristbands for students with work on show

Students with work on display in the shows will need to collect a wristband before the Private View in order to stay in the building past 5pm and gain entry without queuing. Wristbands can be collected from reception during normal working hours 10-17 June. Please email your tutor if you have questions about wristbands.

Private View guest tickets for family and friends

All guest tickets will be digital. Students with work on display will be sent an email inviting them to book up to 4 guest tickets for the Private Views. These tickets can only be scanned to gain entry once. If you have not received your tickets one week before your show, please email csmticketing@arts.ac.uk.
