Personal Styling Short Course
Course description
This course will expand your knowledge of personal styling in the fashion industry. Through a series of engaging lectures, you will learn about client consultation, wardrobe analysis and colour theory to advance your skills and confidence in this area.
The course will cover all the factors that should be considered when advising others on how to dress, from colours and patterns to shape and fit. You will learn how to identify and assess bodylines, taking into account scale and proportion to make the best styling choices for different body shapes.
We will also explore the concept of trends in the fashion industry and discuss how to identify them and what kind of impact they can have on the consultation process. Students will develop practical skills that will be useful for any career or business in the fashion industry and will be able to apply the techniques learnt to many different creative projects. After completing this course you may be interested in taking our Personal Styling Intermediate Short Course.
Course outcomes
By the end of this course, students will:
- Develop a range of techniques and skills for successfully styling a diversity of clients
- Understand how to work with different client briefs and get practical experience with a real client
- Gain confidence in dealing with real client issues and best practices for different client profiles
- Grasp business concepts and how to promote and attract the right clients

Materials
On campus short course material:
In order to fully participate in the practical exercises please bring the following materials/equipment to the first class:
- Notepad and pen
- Pencils
- Laptop with Microsoft Powerpoint or Keynote installed
- PicCollage or equivalent app downloaded onto a smart phone or tablet - to create collage
Online Course Materials
To take part in the Online sessions you will need:
- An up-to-date web browser (we recommend Chrome)
- Microphone and headphones (a headset with a microphone function is recommended. The built-in microphone in your device would also be fine).
