Meet and connect with fellow UAL students through ‘Welcome home’, a campaign created to help eliminate the boundaries and borders between students through an exchange of personalised care packages.

What is 'Welcome home'?

At a time when sentiments of displacement and separation have been shared amongst many young students, it's more important than ever to reconnect with one another. All UAL students are invited to take part in this initiative to create and exchange personalised care packages. Participants will be given a free box to fill with items which represent you and your culture. This package will be given to another student, and you will be assigned a box from someone else in return. Packages will be distributed randomly, regardless of course, year of study or background. The initiative has been organised by Central Saint Martins BA Culture, Criticism, and Curation students Isabel Salinas, Lucy Dearden, Naz Ayan, Xinyu Zou and Yulun Wang, who aim to create a diverse and safe space where students are encouraged to embrace their own cultural backgrounds and explore the diverse heritages of their peers.

How can I take part?

Come and visit us at our booth in The Street at Central Saint Martins, King's Cross on Tuesday 4 October, 9am - 2pm or Thursday 6 October, 12-2pm. Here, you can learn more about the initiative, sign-up to take part and receive your free box to customise! In your box, you can include local specialties, postcards, recipes and more. These packages serve as a way for students to physically interact with one another’s culture. Participants are encouraged to use environment friendly materials and second-hand objects to reduce waste.

Meet other students

After the care packages have been exchanged, we'll be hosting a gathering at Central Saint Martins where participants can get to know one another in a relaxed atmosphere. The gathering will take place on Thursday 20 October, 4–6pm, with free refreshments provided. We look forward to seeing you there!
