Maria

Work placement in Lisbon (Portugal)

Hey everyone!

My name is Maria, I’m from Porto, Portugal and I’m a 4th year (BA) Graphic and Media Design student, at London College of Communication. In my 3rd year of studies I was in Lisbon doing a 6-month internship with a German company, Act.3, and I had the opportunity to work as a graphic designer for sports clients such as Adidas and Redbull. This internship year was an incredible opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. During this time, I had the support of Erasmus+, which really helped to enhance the experience.

Although my course is in Graphic design I am always learning new techniques and crafts. I am passionate about ceramics, sewing and jewellery making, so if I’m not working or developing academic projects I will be doing one of these for sure!

As a member of UAL's Global Student Ambassadors team, I'm available to answer your question and act as a helpline for your doubts and uncertainties. Feel free to contact me anytime!

Rosalie

Studied abroad at Emily Carr University of the Arts, Vancouver (Canada)

Hi!

I’m Rosalie, a 3rd year Illustration student at CCW. I went on an exchange during spring term of 2023 at Emily Carr University of the Arts in Vancouver, Canada.

I really enjoyed these couple of months. I experienced a new culture and new kinds of teaching.

I explored the city and travelled around with friends and at the end of term too. I also co-organised an exhibition called “From a Book, I didn’t Know” for exchange students at Emily Carr to share the work done during our time in Vancouver.

Tobi

Work placement in Zanzibar (Tanzania)

Hi, my name is Tobi and I am a 5th year Masters student at Central Saint Martins studying Architecture and Spatial Practices.

In my 4th year I had the incredible opportunity to embark on a work placement in Tanzania, collaborating with an NGO committed to empowering indigenous communities in East Africa through educational development. My role was centred around working closely with the Maasai tribe, contributing to the design of a new school and community space to meet the needs of their growing population. This placement program was integral in shaping my practice as an architectural practitioner, I left Tanzania with some valuable experiences and connections that will last when I graduate from uni. The Turing Scheme played a crucial role in funding my journey, covering flight expenses and a portion of the accommodation costs for this meaningful project.

Apart from Architecture, I find immense joy in crafting playlists, preparing delicious meals, and designing clothes for my brand.

Dana

Studied abroad at LIM College, New York (USA) and completed a work placement in Paris

Hi everyone!

My name is Dana and I study Fashion Marketing at London College of Fashion. I enjoy exploring new places, cultures and learning languages which is why I decided to do my placement in two places: New York and Paris!

Studying abroad at LIM New York and interning in both cities were incredible experiences that allowed me to broaden my horizon, deepen my knowledge, skills as well as meeting amazing people not only within the fashion industry but from all over the world, I truly had a great time! Fun fact about me, I’m Chinese but was born and raised in Germany which probably explains why I love Schnitzel and Dim sum ! :)

Sophia

Studied abroad at LIM College, New York (USA)

My name is Sophia, and I am a part of your new Global Ambassador team! I am currently in the final year of my Fashion Marketing degree at London College of Fashion. I was able to complete my Diploma in Professional Studies last year, which also facilitated my global exchange to LIM College in New York City. This experience was one of the most amazing things that I have done for both my personal and career development. I made lifelong friends, travelled within America and had the opportunity to partake in valuable career networking during my time on exchange.

I recommend any UAL student to consider going on an exchange experience. The mobility team are able to assist and offer advice in all aspects of the process, which makes the move abroad so much simpler. The Global Ambassador team is also able to assist in any queries big or small regarding the exchange process. After completing an exchange in New York, I am happy to share tips on a move to America (including the best takeout recommendations!). I look forward to meeting prospective exchange students in 2024!
