Biography

Honorary Doctor

Cyndi Rhoades began her career as a film maker for music videos and documentaries, which evolved into a deep interest in the impacts of commerce and global economics on society and the environment.

With an ambition to combat the global challenge of textiles waste, using business as a platform for change, Cyndi founded Worn Again. By turning decommissioned hot air balloons and old men’s suits into desirable second-life products, Worn Again began its journey to find a solution. In 2012, Worn Again Technologies pivoted to science for an answer and began development of a world-leading polymer recycling technology for end-of-use polyester and cotton blend textiles, with a vision to replace the use of virgin resource use in textiles.

Over the years, Cyndi has worked with strategic investors and partners such as H&M, Kering, Swiss chemical engineering firm Sulzer Chemtech and polyester equipment company Oerlikon, to invest in Worn Again’s long term developments.

As a natural next step, Cyndi has recently co-founded Circle-8 Textile Ecosystems, a company created to bring high volume, automated textile sorting systems to the UK to prepare the market for supplying economically viable feedstock into textile to textile recycling plants, including a UK-based Worn Again facility from 2026.
