Biography

Alumna of CSM. Es is a multi-award-winning international stage and set designer whose work crosses a range of genres: opera, dance, film, theatre, TV and concerts.

She also works as creative director for number of pop / rock / rap artists. Es studied music at the Royal Academy of Music from the age of 12 as a Junior Exhibitioner while attending Cranbrook School in Kent. She went on to gain a BA in English Literature at Bristol University. A fine art foundation course followed at CSM before she studied set design on the Motley Theatre Design Course in London.

In her 20 years as a set designer, Es has set stages for the likes of The Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga, U2, Kanye West, Rihanna and Adele, as well as three Louis Vuitton catwalk shows, two Olympic ceremonies (London's closing ceremony in 2012 and Rio's opening ceremony in 2016) and, in 2015, the Barbican's sell-out Hamlet production, starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

She has received multiple accolades including three Oliviers and in 2015, an OBE for Services to Set and Stage Design. In September 2016, Es staged her first solo show, Mirror Maze, a disorientating reflective labyrinth inside a former warehouse in Peckham. Her forthcoming projects this year include productions of Carmen in Austria and Don Giovanni in Barcelona.
