Talented London College of Communication alumnus Antonio Marguet has won first place in Schwartz Gallery’s HOT-ONE-HUNDRED Competition.

HOT-ONE-HUNDRED is a show of 100 emerging contemporary artists based in the U.K. Following an Open Call format the 100 artists and the subsequent solo-show artist were selected by Ismail Erbil and Patrick Michalopoulos, artist-curators of Schwartz Gallery, one of the largest and longest-running of the current crop of artist-run spaces in London.

Antonio, who graduated from MA Photography in 2011, will be exhibiting his solo show ‘Toenail Constellations’ in the Schwartz Gallery from 31st October – 23 November.

According to the organisers, the exhibition’s title references the notion of the toenail as a metaphoric surface for escapist fantasies. This personal but distanced area of the body connects the idea of self-absorption and reflection, connecting the finite and the infinite simultaneously in a deep space of wonder and immensity.

Antonio, who recently exhibited his work in the Saatchi Gallery and Channel 4′s NEW SENSATIONS, and The Other Art Fair at Old Truman Brewery, was selected as one of the UK’s new emerging artists at the London Art Fair with Catlin Art Guide 2012.
He went on to win the first prize for Absolut Vodka’s Blank commission, continuing in their legacy of artists they sponsor to create a unique artwork for their iconic brand.

Antonio was given his first solo show at Damien Hirst’s Gallery Other Criteria, which ran during the autumn of 2012, followed by ‘Brush It In’, a group show at Flowers East Gallery.
