Congratulations to our recent MA Illustration graduate, John Riordan, who has won the New Talent Award in the Editorial and Social Comment section of the AOI Awards.
The prize was awarded for John’s MA project, Capital City, a graphic poem about The City and the financial crisis.
On his project, the judges commented:
“We really liked the sense of narrative and social comment in this work. The words are written by the illustrator and so the text and image work together rather than illustration responding to a text. It is a very impressive piece of work, the spreads are stunning. It has real impact and has a lot of atmosphere. ”
John’s work will feature in the AOI Illustration Awards exhibition at Somerset House from 3-28 October and he is also in contention for the overall New Talent Winner Award, which will be announced 8 October 2013.
