Third year BA (Hons) Graphic & Media Design student Lisa Grant has been nominated for an award at this year’s Creative Conscience Awards: UK.
Her final project ‘The Orphans Who Had Parents’ has been shortlisted for an award in the Illustration & Animation category.
The publication is a short graphic novel surrounding the largely unreported issue of Cambodia’s ‘orphan business’.
The comic is based on the true stories of Cambodian children used by institutions as bait to lure in wealthy volunteers known as ‘voluntourists’.
The heart-wrenching story follows 8-year-old Ary and her brother 6-year-old Peou’s experience after being sent to the Oknha orphanage by their father who could no longer afford to care for them.
Beautifully presented, the story is told in a sensitive and thought-provoking manner, and Lisa’s work certainly deserves the attention it has gained through this nomination.
