Biography

Alison Moloney has recently joined London College of Fashion where she is responsible for curating an international programme of exhibitions around the discipline of fashion and dress. Exhibitions are developed in collaboration with international museums and galleries, educational institutes, independent designers and London College of Fashion alumni, staff and students.

Before joining LCF, Alison worked as the Fashion and Textiles Advisor for the British Council’s Architecture, Design and Fashion department. In this role she curated Reconstruction: Cultural Heritage and the Making of Contemporary Fashion, which toured to South Asia; Alchemy: Contemporary Jewellery from Britain which toured to the Gulf; commissioned Dressing the Screen, a fashion film exhibition, for China UK Now and developed the International Fashion Showcase with the British Fashion Council.

She also devised exhibitions, seminars, workshops and international collaborations in graphic and product and furniture design including Timeless: Experimenta 2009; The Incidental, a social media newsletter for the Milan Furniture Fair and London Design Festival and a series of design workshops in Central and South Asia - The New Silk Road.

Alison has an MA in Fashion History and Culture from London College of Fashion and before joining the British Council she worked as Assistant Curator at Judith Clark Costume as well as writing on fashion for both trade and commercial press.

Research interests

Fashion and dress history, fashion curation, museology, collaborations and commissions, archives and collections, audience development and widening participation.

Research statement

Her research focuses on fashion curation and how this discipline can be informed and interpreted by curators and practitioners from the fields of design and architecture. Through collaborative projects and cross-disciplinary commissions Alison looks to produce experimental displays of dress which present multiple perspectives on fashion and dress.

Other exhibitions include a film commission for the Venice Architecture Biennale, 2014, which responds to the brief Absorbing Modernity 1914-2014 which was set by the Biennale curator Rem Koolhaas to the national pavilions; a commissioned response to the London College of Fashion Archive from a designer outside of the discipline of fashion and a series of small exhibitions presented in a touring cabinet.
