The LCF Careers Fair 2025 is taking place on Wednesday 4 June 10am - 4pm. The Fair will see Graduate Futures hosting 16 brands and companies at LCF's East Bank campus, all ready to meet our future LCF talent. Being prepared is the best way to make a good impression and stand out!
To help prepare for the Fair, we caught up with our Industry Exhibitors, COS, Shiseido, DWEET and Tomorrow, to share their ‘top tips’ for LCF students and graduates looking to break into the creative industry.
Barbour
Take and create as many opportunities to gain as much relevant experience as you can! Know the role and brand you are applying for and tailor your application / CV to showcase why you are a standout candidate for that particular brand.
COS
We encourage you to thoroughly research and understand the values of the company you are applying to. Additionally, staying updated on the latest trends, technologies, and developments in your field will help you stand out and confidently showcase your expertise when applying for roles.
Shiseido
My top tip would be to build a strong network and seek out mentorship. Many people rely on social media and technology to engage, take opportunities to speak to people in person, persistence and a proactive approach can make a significant difference in your career journey!
DWEET
Be open to starting at the heart of the industry: in-store. Retail roles, even short-term or flexible ones, are a powerful way to build first-hand experience, understand how customers engage with brands, and get your foot in the door of some of the most iconic names in fashion. Whether you’re studying design, marketing or business, the insights and connections you gain from being on the ground can shape your future career and set you apart from other graduates.
Tomorrow
As an agency recruiter, we work with a variety of fashion and beauty brands, who are looking for fresh and exciting talent in the market, and with a lot of talent out there, it is important to stand out!
Therefore, here are some top tips on how to do just that:
- Firstly, it is all about communication! A well written and passionate introduction is key – and standing out from the crowd can be as easy as a simple and well-structured initial email, using AI as a guide, not as your voice.
- Consider all your options - There are lots of roles that make up the fashion industry, so think how your skill set could fit into different teams, from HR to Strategy, Client Services and Marketing!
- Know your stuff! It is important to do your research, not just on the brand that you are applying for, but also the inspiration behind that brand and the history of key trends in the world you would like to work.
- Embrace your personal creativity. It is important to find your own unique style, not just in fashion, but across your CV and portfolio. From your own colour palette to unique fonts that speak to the audience of the brand you want to work for.
- Make key connections. Networking and perseverance go hand in hand. The more people you speak to, the more connections you make on LinkedIn and in real networking situations, are likely to turn into opportunities! LinkedIn is a great place to also build a brand and start creating a voice!
More than anything however, it is to be passionate, authentic and to work hard for the career you want to be in!
