On Monday 29 November 2021, LCF alumni Nensi Dojaka and Bethany Williams took home awards from the British Fashion Council's official Fashion Awards 2021. The Fashion Awards are hosted yearly as an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the best of the fashion industry. This year, the awards were presented by TikTok, unveiling a new digital platform to bring the red carpet to those at home.

In addition to the awards, the evening also consisted of a touching celebration and memorial of fashion designer and creative visionary, Virgil Abloh, after the sudden announcement of his passing earlier this week. A speech was given by friend of Virgil, Idris Elba.

Nensi, who studied BA (Hons) Fashion Contour and previously won the LVMH Prize for emerging talent, was crowned winner of the BFC Foundation Award. The award is designed to recognise the achievements of emerging design talent that are already receiving funding and support from the BFC.

Bethany Williams, an MA Fashion Design Technology: Menswear alumna, received a Leaders of Change: Environment recognition for her work dedicated to social and environmental justice. The award - received by 5 worthy winners - celebrates those who have made a significant contribution towards reducing the environmental impact of the fashion industry to create positive change. They are described as 'the leaders who are setting the bar by exploring new business models, design principles, production processes, consumption, and disposal.'

In addition to the awards, the British Fashion Council's NEW WAVE: Creatives for 2021 were also highlighted. The initiative represents 50 of the most innovative and inspiring young creative global talents, showcasing various disciplines and focus, highlighting London’s position as the epicentre for international talent. London College of Fashion would like to celebrate 2 alumni that have gained success through the initiative for 2021 - Crystabel Riley from BA (Hons) Hair and Make-up for Fashion and  Fish Zhang.
