UAL Study Abroad Semester
About the programme
Join our 13-week Semester Study Abroad programme that is especially designed for study abroad students.
Semester Study Abroad offers highly structured teaching and support from your teachers, all of whom are actively involved in their professional fields. Our exciting Semester programme allows integration and cross-working between UAL Colleges. Alongside mandatory, cross-College units, you will be able to choose a pathway that dives deeper into your subject area of interest.
- Study for 13 weeks alongside other international students.
- Choose from Autumn or Spring semesters.
- If you would like to study on one of our degree programmes, you may be interested in our Integrated Study Abroad programme.
If you are a UAL student looking to study abroad, or an overseas student looking for exchange opportunities, please visit our Student Mobility page.

Classes
For each of our semester programmes, there are classes that are mandatory for all students, and these classes will automatically be assigned to you.
For certain programmes, let us know before you arrive which classes you are interested in taking, and we will do our best to accommodate your requests.
See below for the range of courses available.
If you or your home university have any specific requirements about what you need to study while you are in London, please contact us in advance of your arrival.
Credit
Students can join the semester programme for credit towards degrees at their home institutions. As a guide, each semester is worth 12 to 16 US credits, depending on the classes taken. At the end of the course, we will provide a record of study listing the grades the student has achieved for each unit and their equivalent UK credit value.
In order for your home institution to award external credit, please read the module descriptions on each programme’s web page before you travel to London, as these will give you and your advisor a clear idea about what you will study while you are here.
Please make sure your home institution will award external credit before you travel to London. The Study Abroad team can provide additional module information on request.
Teaching
Our semester programmes are perfect for art, design and fashion majors, as well as liberal arts students with some experience in these areas.
Most of the teaching on the semester programmes happens separately from our full-time students. So the programmes can be shaped according to the needs, interests and requirements of each group. There's time for more student support and extra elements, such as field trips and special events.
