My time at London College of Fashion (LCF) so far, as a BSc (Hons) Fashion Management student, has been filled with amazing guest lectures, exhibitions, industry visits, panel discussions, social gatherings and more. Some of my highlights so far are:

Ed & Benny’s Playground

We visited “Ed & Benny’s Playground” - a collaborative exhibition brought to us by designers Ed Curtis and Benny Andallo in collaboration with Depop and artist Rory Mullen. As Benny referred to it, we witnessed a “maximalist collage of madness”, which brought together playfulness and sustainability. We saw the collection along with the art, which was produced to create the beautifully mad space in which the garments were displayed.

Ed & Benny’s Playground was a perfect example of how sustainability and circular fashion can be fun and they were able to deliver this by injecting their creative vision into the pieces they made from pre-loved garments and fabrics. Two key takeaways we loved from the designers: “I like to create things I haven’t seen before” - Benny Andallo, “You can do a lot by being clever and resourceful” - Ed Curtis.

LCF x Stella McCartney

We had an opportunity to attend an exclusive talk given by Stella McCartney’s E-commerce manager Jaz Grewal, organised by one of our tutors Ronit Zilkha. Jaz provided us with key insights into the fashion industry and gave us an understanding of what it’s really like to work for a luxury fashion brand. We explored the rising importance of digitalisation within fashion, how it is shifting consumer behaviour and what brands are doing to adapt to the new reality.

Carolyn Nasiff on Save Your Wardrobe

Carolyn Nasiff, the lead of regional operations at “Save Your Wardrobe”, introduced us to the new, innovative digital wardrobe application in a lecture she delivered during our Fashion Futures unit. We discussed the post-purchase dilemma, exploring consumer behaviour and trying to understand consumer’s motivation to shop, through their wardrobe. Founded in 2017 by Hasna Kourda (CEO) and Mehdi Doghri (CTO), “Save Your Wardrobe” is a B2C app, which allows consumers to have access to their wardrobes digitally, pushing them to buy less and buy better. They offer personal styling recommendations, repair and cleaning services as well as a platform to sell and buy pre-loved items of clothing. We gained valuable insights from a brand which is working towards creating a sustainable future for fashion through digital technology.
