Interview

Why did you choose to study at LCF?

The main attraction of LCF to me was its creditable reputation, alongside all the colleges under University of the Arts London. I've had a strong interest in fashion from a very young age, and I loved the idea of turning that interest into an actual career. Luckily for me, a boy not particularly good in front of a sewing machine, LCF offers a wide variation of courses that allows you to explore fashion in many other directions.

What skills did you learn and are using now?

Throughout university we were taught the importance of attention to detail, whenever we were presenting our work, creating innovative campaigns and producing final outcomes. It's interesting to see how that materialises in the 'real world' and watch it going on around you every day; and actually being able to have an input based on the skills developed while at university.

Could you tell us about your current role?

Two days after I handed in my final major project, I commenced by job with the Global Communications team at Jo Malone London. Working for a British brand (with it's Global HQ here in London) has allowed me to experience how PR operates across various markets around the world. The fast-paced nature of Jo Malone London worldwide keeps me on my toes and always provides me with fun, creative challenges whilst working in a small, but amazing team.

How did you get to where you are today?

Throughout my third year I worked two days a week, at one of the Jo Malone London’s boutiques. I had decided to base my final year project on the Jo Malone London brand, so I applied for a retail position there, to enhance my understanding of the brand and its customers. I worked with a really inspiring team, who were very supportive with all I had going on at university (and in giving me many pep talks in the lead up to my hand-ins). Meanwhile, a position came up in the Communications department at the Jo Malone London Head Office, and my managers put me forward for it - and I got it! I feel so lucky to work with such kind-hearted people and so thankful to have been given the opportunity to commence my career within such an exciting company, utilising the skills and knowledge I learnt at LCF.

Tell us about your average day at your job?

As I'm sure anyone in PR would say, it's not possible to answer that question. Every day is totally different; always speaking with exciting people and doing exciting things!

What is your top tip for those who want to get into roles like yours?

LCF will provide you with 3 years of knowledge that you can apply in any way you wish - opportunities can arise at any time! But mainly remember to always keep a positive attitude!
