Sometimes the best advice comes straight from the mouths of those who live their lives in the industry. So with that in mind, as part of our Fashion Means Business blog series, we stole 5 minutes of Brand Consultant and Fashion Curator, Carmen Haid’s time and asked her to ‘finish our sentence’.

I got to where I am today by... being focused, passionate, proactive, working hard and being fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time. You create your own opportunities.

Studying BA Fashion Management at LCF… gave an invaluable insight of learning about the business of fashion.

London is… an incredible city: Multi-cultural, full of talent, culture, art, great opportunities and a constant creative buzz. Everything is possible, very inspiring!

An average day in my profession…there is no such a thing! In short, I try to make things happen and to help others, to ensure everyone is happy.

My ambitions are…I have so many! Watch this space.

An ideal weekend for me… at the moment it is a get away with my loved one, in nature and serene tranquility.

My top tip is… be focused, flexible and open minded, ready to roll up your sleeves, be reliable and passionate about what you do.

Three values all Brand Consultants should live by are… think out of the box, be global and have a good dose of common sense.

The most important thing I wish I had known when I started out is… that everything you do is for a reason – Life is a journey!

The Do’s and Dont’s of advising big brands are…

  • Only work with brands that excite you
  • Be discreet and honest, people hire you for your thoughts
  • Do observe – know when to act and when to pull back
  • Be strategic – everything you do should have a goal
  • Don’t compare – Treat every client with fresh eyes
  • Don’t work for free – you do have a value
  • Have fun! If you are not having it, just don’t do it.
