Biography

Dr Joe Jackson is Lecturer in Communications and Media (Multimedia Production) at London College of Communication. His debut book – ‘Kahlil Joseph and the Audiovisual Atlantic: Music, Modernity, Transmedia Art’ – is forthcoming with Bloomsbury Academic.

Joe has written and presented talks about a range of contemporary media forms (from film, music video and advertisement to social media, installation art, digital streaming and the Metaverse) across various academic institutions, including: Birkbeck, UCL, SOAS and Goldsmiths.

He has also spoken at a variety of public events and industry-orientated spaces, such as: Ars Electronica Festival, Bertha DocHouse and FOCUS - The Meeting Place for International Production. He is a member of the Screen Worlds collective, wrote about global media production as Web Editor for The Location Guide, and previously created educational resources at the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Joe's teaching and research activities both explore the intersections between media theory and creative practice, examining overlaps and tensions across academic paradigms, different practical skills and audio(di)visual modes of expression.

He studied at the School of Oriental and African Studies (PhD, MA) and University College London (BA), winning the SOAS Postgraduate Thesis Prize and passing his PhD viva voce examination with no revisions or corrections.

He loves working in LCC’s inspiring and creative educational environment, empowering emerging voices and nurturing new talent while, at the same time, channelling his own passions for academia, creativity and the arts.
