As part of London College of Communication’s ongoing support to our cultural neighbours, we’re featuring a weekly round-up of some of the activities and content provided by the fantastic museums, galleries and cultural venues in our local area.
From online events like Instagram drawing clubs and virtual exhibitions to physical activities like performances and screenings, here’s our guide to what you can get involved in with our Southwark and Lambeth friends and partners both online and in person.

The Living Room, Sayer Street - Now Open
The Living Room at Sayer Street showcases a selection of novel independent creatives in purpose built maker spaces along a new retail hub at Elephant Park. Along with a 400 sqm pleasure garden - verdant planting, colourful canopies and lights, outdoor workspaces, creative maker spaces, recreational green nooks and an urban wildflower meadow.
All inviting visitors to a memorable high street experience, encompassing all that represents the social life of some of London’s best-loved public spaces.

Ann Veronica Janssens: Hot Pink Turquoise | South London Gallery
Belgian artist Ann Veronica Janssens (b. 1956) has created an extensive body of work over four decades spanning installations, projections, immersive environments and sculptures.
At the core of her practice is an interest in light and its impact on our perception and experience. This exhibition is the first major presentation of Janssens’ work in London.

A Night at the Musicals: Southwark Playhouse
Join original star of Six, Christina Modestou, for an evening of your favourite musical theatre tunes. Featuring music from all-time favourite musicals: West Side Story, Cabaret, Funny Girl, We Will Rock You, In the Heights, Waitress, Six and many more.
Christina’s powerful and versatile voice will take you through the musical ages from the early unforgettable classics to today’s absolute belters with a few musical mashups and surprises in between.

The History of Black People in Southwark: Southwark Library
Join author and historian S.I. Martin on a journey through Southwark's Black History. Topics covered include Black revolutionaries in Southwark, The 4 day Southwark celebration for Mary Seacole and many more.

Not Without My Ghosts – The Artist as Medium |Drawing Room
Drawing Room and Hayward Gallery Touring presents Not Without My Ghosts: The Artist As Medium, a major exhibition of artists and works inspired by mediumistic methodologies and their deep cultural history.
The show is a celebration of over 30 international artists exploring spiritualism and super natural forces.
The gallery is open Weds-Sun, 12-6pm (booking advised. Six people max at any one time).

Re-Tribe: Elephant & Castle Community Hub
This online series of self-care workshops will offer a space for people to come together and connect with themselves and others in a way that can provide calm and courage.
If you just want to check in, chat with someone, or participate in the exercises / activities available such as guided meditation, breathwork and grounding techniques – feel free to join us.

Free Yoga Webinars: Isha Yoga
Join us for free live webinars to discover yogic methods for enhancing your respiratory health, mental wellbeing and overall physical health.
These sessions are being conducted for the Southwark community, with the support of the Southwark Council’s Neighbourhoods Fund.

Artist Advice Surgeries Are Back! | The Albany
Are you creating or leading your first project? Are you applying for funding for the first or second time? Are you hoping to engage with communities and not sure where to start?
Are you trying to work out how to adapt something to Covid-19 restrictions? We offer 45-minute advice surgery for artists.
Artist Advice Surgeries are usually held in person, but due to current restrictions this is a Zoom/telephone offer for October and November sessions.
