Michael Kors choo-choo-chooses Jimmy Choo…
Carrie Bradshaw’s favourite footwear label Jimmy Choo has been bought by Michael Kors Holdings for £896million. Originally founded by LCF alum Jimmy Choo and Vogue journalist Tamara Mellon, Jimmy Choo has suffered from fall in sales and profits in recent years and it is hoped that under Michael Kors there will be growth opportunities in the luxury menswear market and in Asia. The sale will see Michael Kors Holdings dominate the luxury accessories market. The BBC reports.
Marc Jacobs no longer by Marc?
There are rumours floating around that designer Marc Jacobs may step away from his eponymous label as the brand tries to pull itself back to financial security. The brand has faced various challenges in recent years including a number of personnel changes and in early 2017 LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault said – “I’m more concerned about Marc Jacobs than the US president.”. The BoF discusses the options open to the much loved brand and designer.
Something is coming…
Fashion’s most celebrated make up artist, and new Vogue beauty editor-at-large, Pat McGrath launched her debut line of beauty kits this week, exclusively at Net-a-Porter. The highly covetable metallic Pat McGrath Labs range has proven a huge success already which Vogue puts down to McGrath’s ‘a unique combination of star-power, great product and packaging, and smart use of social media.’
Fashion’s richest man…
Not much is known about Amancio Ortega, the world’s richest man and the founder of Zara but a new documentary promises an exclusive look at the inner workings of the brand and the man behind it. Zara: The Story of the World’s Richest Man is out in autumn. To tide us over until then Refinery 29 brought us 10 facts about the fashion giant including how it started with just a €30 bank loan.
#Gucciandbeyond
Gucci launched their sci-fi influenced aw17 campaign this week. Shot by Glen Luchford with creative direction by Alessandro Michelle, the campaign is filled with loads of 50s and 60s kitsch sci-fi iconography including a T-Rex, a Star Trek transporter and some aliens for good measure.
