Fur free at Gucci…

Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri announced that the brand will be joining the Fur Free Alliance and no longer use fur in any collections from 2018. The game changing announcement was made exclusively at LCF’s annual Kering Talk.  Bizzarri stated that the move proved “our absolute commitment to making sustainability an intrinsic part of our business”.  We’ve seen many a brand try to replicate Gucci’s success lately. Hopefully they will be following this move as well.

Tainted…

The fashion world has become twice embroiled in the horrifying Harvey Weinstein scandal this week. Firstly there has been talk about the future of label Marchesa, whose co-founder Georgina Chapman is married to the disgraced producer, after is was confirmed that actresses where forced into wearing the brand on the red carpet. Chapman has announced her separation from Weinstein but it is unlikely anyone one will be seen in a Marchesa dress for a while. The second scandal came when friend of Weinstein, Donna Karan give an ill-informed interview where she appeared to victim blame, by using the tired and pathetic ‘asking for it’ line. A #boycottdonnakaran campaign immediately took over social media.

The BoF discusses how the fashion industry must step up in light of this scandal.

Why talk, when you can teleport?

New technologies are transforming the fashion industry and LCF’s Fashion Innovation Agency are pioneering a lot of these changes.  This week they announced their latest project with LCF alumni Rixo and tech start up HoloMe.  Using augmented reality and computer vision to digitally teleport users anywhere, anytime. Once a person is filmed, they are automatically processed and sent to another user’s smart phone as a life-like human hologram. Watch the demo below, it is awe-inspiring and could revolutionise the catwalk.

Start queuing now…

H&M released look book images of their highly anticipated Erdem collaboration and they definitely lived up to expectation.  Full of pretty florals, tweed, tailoring and animal print, the collaboration will have the fashion crowd queuing around the block. The collection goes on sale 2 November and we expect to see *that* floral hoodie all over LCF.

Buying the headlines…

The Business of Fashion this week discussed the growing trend from front cover advertising, highlighting the latest issues of Dazed & Confused and AnOther magazines with their whole Burberry & Gucci looks. Once an absolute taboo, falling revenues and print sales have seen publishers push the boundaries of editorial and advertising.  The article raises some interesting points on benefits of the approach for brands versus the long term risks for publications.
