Thai jewellery designer Thanaporn Sopchokchai came to London to experience the European market and the business side of fashion. The MA Fashion Retail Fashion Management graduate talks to us about her Final Major Project and brand Moress for LCF MA17.
Tell us about your Final Major Project?
My project was mainly on my jewellery brand Moress. I was researching into the field of experiential retailing and how to create an atmospheric online shopping platform for the brand.
Where did you study prior to London College of Fashion?
I studied at Chulalongkorn University, BA Communication Design.
What would be your top three tips for prospective students?
- Find out what really interests you
- Keep reading, keep researching and keep yourself up to dated on any news trends.
- Connect and network, get the most out of LCF and London.
Why did you choose LCF and MA Fashion Retail Management?
I love that LCF offers knowledge and studies in business, but at the same time does not forget the creative side of fashion. As well as its location, which allows me as a student to experienced the retail industry. This course expanded my knowledge to prepare me for my family retail business.
What did you enjoy most about the course, and what did you find most challenging?
I enjoyed the guest speakers and collaborations with companies, and I must say I am thankful for having Bethan as my course director. Without her amazing network and connections, I would not have had these industry experiences. The most challenging part of the course was the master project and working independently in your own time, constantly motivating yourself to keep researching.
What is your favourite thing about studying in London?
The city is very lively and the transport is convenient.
Have you undertaken any work experience or placements whilst at LCF?
I worked for various independent designers such as Rubymoonswim design, John Smedley, IBB London, Y brands which retail Kyoto Pearl brand and Jennifer Anne Petite.
Describe your work in five words…
Creative, managerial, fast-paced, networking and communicator.
Who is your biggest inspiration or muse?
I would say my biggest inspiration is Jesper Neilsen, who made Pandora famous!
What are your future plans and how do you think the course has helped you realise this?
My plan is to carry on working within my family business, expanding distribution channels and finding more European buyers.
LCF moving to Stratford: What do you think about the university moving east?
I lived in Stratford myself, I find the East Village area very nice and calm. The southeastern train also makes it very easy to travel to central London.
