Biography

Pedro Pina is a designer, typographer, and lecturer in Editorial Practices on the BA (Hons) Graphic and Media Design course at London College of Communication.

Pedro has over 10 years of experience teaching both BA and MA in higher education, and over 15 years of experience as a practicing designer. He has previously worked for and collaborated with design studios such as R2design, Studio Andrew Howard and Whynotassociates.

Alongside his position at LCC, Pedro maintains an editorial design and typography practice under the name PG Howlin’ Studio and works commercially, mostly in the cultural sector with clients including Tate Modern, Whitechapel Gallery, Serralves Museum and 4AD records, as well as smaller, independent publishers, galleries, and artists. He also works with branding and advertising agencies through his type design and lettering work.

Pedro holds an MA in Communication Art and Design from the Royal College of Art (2012) and a BA (Hons) in Communication Design (2006) as well as a Post Graduate Certificate in Digital Type Design (2010), both from ESAD University, Porto. He is also a HEA Fellow with a PGC in Higher Education (2018).

His personal research practice focuses on vernacular, informal graphics, and ephemera of which he has an extensive collection of found examples. Pedro is also a keen documentary photographer, often using his photography as part of his design work.
