MA Costume Design for Performance student Rachele Terrinoni was selected this year to design UAL Chancellor Grayson Perry’s 2019 Graduation robe. Rachele’s colourful and extravagant design aimed to "represent all different fields covered by UAL, including visual arts, performances, costume and fashion design," as she explains. It also made the front page of the Evening Standard!

We asked Rachele about the process and the creation of her design, and this is what she told us:

Considering the variety of hand-stitch details that this outfit is made up, one of the most challenging aspect was to plan a realistic schedule in order to be ready for the final date.

For the past two years, Grayson Perry has given UAL students the opportunity to design his robe for the graduation’s ceremonies. In 2018, another student from London College of Fashion was selected to design his robe: alumna Yuxuan Yang from BA (Hons) Fashion Textile: Knit.
