As part of London College of Communication’s ongoing support to our cultural neighbours, we’re featuring a monthly round-up of some of the online activities and content provided by the fantastic museums, galleries and cultural venues in our local area, updated week-to-week.

From Instagram drawing clubs to virtual exhibitions, artist profiles, video demonstrations, film screenings, performances and more, here’s our guide to what you can get involved in with our Southwark and Lambeth friends and partners – all from the comfort of your own home.

Kennington Bioscope Online – Seasonal Special | The Cinema Museum

Wednesday 16 December, 7.30pm

Kennington Bioscope’s KBTV YouTube Channel presents a sumptuous season selection box of silent Christmas and Winter cinema shorts, through the enormous generosity of EYE Filmmuseum and the British Film Institute (BFI).

Bringing some joy while saying 'so long' to this extraordinary year, the shorts will be accompanied by live music from our very special regular KBTV pianists, and we’ll also be playing host to some very special guest performers.

Winter Warmer Promo Event, Elephant Arcade

Wednesday 16 December, 7.30pm

Elephant Arcade is excited to invite you to a Winter Warmer event, with a bunch of fantastic promotional offers in every shop for the community to enjoy!

Elephant Arcade has a diverse range of stores and services for the community, including a eateries, fashion retailers, and other goods and services.

Camberwell Free Film Festival 2020 | Camberwell Arts

Thursday 17 December, various times

Camberwell Free Film Festival (CFFF) is back this year, showcasing a powerful and eclectic collection of visual experiences from independent filmmakers, animators and storytellers.

CFFF is a free community festival founded in 2013 through a desire to strengthen the community and support local businesses. This volunteer-run, free-to-attend annual film programme is held in the public spaces of SE5.

Stay Awake, Jake | Southwark Playhouse

Friday 18 December – Saturday 19 December, 7.45pm (Matinée starts at 3.15pm)

Tim Gilvin’s multi-award-winning one-act musical Stay Awake, Jake is a bold and innovative tale of one man’s journey across England’s deserted motorways in the middle of the night, as he drives from London to Carlisle to be reunited with his girlfriend Sofia.

Stay Awake Jake is about love, responsibility, fatherhood and ultimately what it means to be a man in the 21st century.

Peckham Palms Christmas Market | Peckham Palms

Saturday 12 December – Sunday 20 December, 12-6pm 

Peckham Palms Christmas Market is back for its second year, and once again its bringing you the best of what Peckham and the African diaspora has to offer.

The market will support freelancers, entrepreneurs and designer-makers, who will provide bespoke, high-quality and affordable goods. Come along to support the local economy and get yourself some bespoke Christmas gifts from local black-owned businesses.

Vintage Christmas Card Letterpress Printing with Bell House

Sunday 20 December, 4-5pm

Join letterpress-enthusiast Simon Trewin in his Brixton studio (via Zoom) and explore his collection of historic vintage printing presses, wooden type and metal illustration blocks.

Watch as Simon prints a selection of festival Christmas items, from cards to tags and decorations. Your own Garage Press festive goody bag will be available to collect from Bell House the following week.

The Elephant Christmas Pantomime | Elephant and Castle Virtual Community Hub

Sunday 20 December, 7-8.30pm

Join the Elephant and Castle Virtual Community Hub online for a free event full of festive fun.

Starring your favourite Community Hub guests, including the Community Hub Choir performing Christmas Carols, Santa Storytime and performances from Dancebeats.

Rapunzel Art Workshop with Art in the Park

Tuesday 22 December, 11am-12pm

This workshop for children aged 5 and up explores the well-known fairytale Rapunzel in a unique way.

Using a combination of storytelling, drawing, collaboration and prop-making, will learn things you may not have known about your favourite stories.

Three Little Pigs Art Workshop with Art in the Park

Wednesday 23 December, 11am-12pm

This workshop for children aged 5 and over explores the well-known fairytale, The Three Little Pigs. Using a combination of storytelling, drawing, collaboration and prop-making, you will discover things you may not have known about your favourite stories.

Sleeping Beauty Art Workshop with Art in the Park

Tuesday 29 December, 11am-12pm

This workshop explores the well-known fairytale Sleeping Beauty. Using a combination of storytelling, drawing, collaboration and prop-making, you will discover things you may not have known about your favourite stories.
