As part of London College of Communication’s ongoing support to our cultural neighbours, we’re featuring a weekly round-up of some of the activities and content provided by the fantastic museums, galleries and cultural venues in our local area.

From online events like Instagram drawing clubs and virtual exhibitions to physical activities like performances and screenings, here’s our guide to what you can get involved in with our Southwark and Lambeth friends and partners both online and in person.

Week starting: 28 September 2020

The Last Five Years with Southwark Playhouse

Physical event. From 1 October, 7.30pm

“The Last Five Years returns to Southwark Playhouse after its critically acclaimed run was cut short in March.

“Jason Robert Brown’s Drama Desk Award winning musical, The Last Five Years, is an emotionally powerful and intimate show about two New Yorkers who fall in and out of love over the course of five years.

“The production will resume performances in a newly configured socially distanced auditorium with limited seating capacity.”

My House is an Island with Arthousehaus

Physical event. Open daily until 3 October, 12-6pm

“My House is an Island is an exhibition taking place in a domestic environment, featuring over thirty works from emerging artists around the world.

“Artworks include photography, sculpture, books, painting and projection all selected from an Open Call.”

Terra Nexus with Proposition Studios

Physical event. Opens 11 October

“TERRA NEXUS, is a labyrinth of 17 interconnected artist worlds, questioning the role of The Human As Part of Ecology.

“The show tackles many different aspects of our ecology and our relationship with the biosphere.

“This is also the first of a series of immersive projects by Proposition Studios, an artist studio, exhibition space and charity dedicated to creating financial autonomy for artists and re-assessing our relationship with the planet.”

Coping with Anxiety with Bell House

Virtual event. Starting 6 October 6-7.30pm for 4 weeks each Tuesday

“This new drop-in series of online sessions are aimed at teenagers and young professionals from 18-25 years of age.

“The group is a safe space to discuss any anxiety-related feelings, emotions, and everyday experiences of dealing with the burden of anxiety.

“This talk group hosts are honorary assistant psychologists from the psychology clinic Circle Psychology Partners and will offer participants some exercises which help in dealing with anxiety and difficult emotions. “

Creative Network: Dance & Wellbeing with Voluntary Arts

Virtual event. 29 September, 9.30-10.30am

“After more than 100 inspiring sessions since 17 March, we have started to develop successful themed sessions that take place monthly.

“We'll be continuing these for the foreseeable future and invite anyone interested in these topics to join a session.

“This week's session is ‘Dance & Wellbeing’ with guests from the Scottish Ballet.”

Not Without My Ghosts: The Artist As Medium with Drawing Room

Physical event. Until 14 November

“Drawing Room and Hayward Gallery Touring presents Not Without My Ghosts: The Artist As Medium, a major exhibition of artists and works inspired by mediumistic methodologies and their deep cultural history.

“To make sure we can reopen safely, we are asking visitors to pre-book free timed entry slots for the exhibition.”

Oktoberfest 2020 with Mercato Metropolitano

Physical event. 23 September – 4 October, 6-10pm

“We're back for Oktoberfest 2020! Enjoy London's original craft Oktoberfest hosted at the 1200 sq. meter 'Brew Garden' within Mercato Metropolitano in Elephant and Castle.

“The team from Mercato Metropolitano and us are working really hard to make this experience as safe as possible.

“Oktoberfest celebrations will stretch over 11 days to avoid crowd formations and we recommend coming during the week.”
