Tell us about yourself
My name is Anaïs, and I am currently studying MA Music Management at London College of Communication (LCC), part of University of the Arts London. I have always been drawn to the music industry, and I am now focusing my studies on building a career within it.
What did you do before joining LCC, and why did you choose this course?
When I graduated from Lancaster University with a BSc in Business Management, I knew something was missing. I had chosen a broad degree deliberately to keep my options open, but the pull towards the music industry never went away.
After graduating, I went into social media for tech companies. It was not long before I realised it was not the right fit. I had always wanted to study music business, and it was the path I had considered from the start, but I talked myself out of it. Working in an industry that did not excite me made that clearer than ever.
So, I decided to pursue that dream properly, and the MA Music Management at London College of Communication (LCC) felt like exactly the right way to do it.
What have you learned on the course so far, and how is it shaping your career?
The course has already shifted the way I think about building a career in music. The biggest lesson I have taken from it is that your network is everything.
From the very beginning, I threw myself into industry events, meeting people, making connections. If I want to become an artist manager, which is an option I am considering for the later years of my career, the relationships I build now will be the foundation of everything that follows.
MA Music Management has not only taught me that in theory, but it has also given me the time, the context, and the confidence to build that network in real time.

What has the experience of studying in London added to your learning?
Being based in London makes everything more possible. There are gigs and industry events happening constantly. Every week is an opportunity to discover a new artist, hear something unexpected, or meet someone who could change the direction of your career.
The city is genuinely part of the course experience.
How has studying at LCC shaped your wider creative perspective?
What I did not fully expect was the wider creative community you become part of at an arts university. LCC is full of music students, but also photographers, stylists, graphic designers, creative directors, and illustrators—all under one roof.
For someone who wants to manage artists, that is invaluable. The team you would otherwise spend years trying to assemble is right here.
What advice would you give to future students considering this course?
If you are thinking about applying, my biggest piece of advice is this: find an artist to work with as early as possible.
The course gives you the knowledge and the frameworks but applying them in real life, with a real artist, is where it truly clicks. And when questions come up, your lecturers are right there so do not wait until you are further along to start putting things into practice.
Coming to LCC felt like finally pursuing my dream and even though I am not completely there yet, I am confident that I will get there.
