London College of Communication graduates lit up Elephant Park with their ‘fun, interactive and thrilling light installations’ as part of their Elephant Glow event in February celebrating the area’s past, present and future.
The event, delivered by 3 graduates from LCC’s BA (Hons) Interaction Design Arts course and commissioned by Elephant Park and Lendlease, attracted hundreds of visitors each day.
Rosie Allen, Tommaso Cesaro and Marion Lagedamont created 3 installations as part of the public display – ‘Many Hands’, ‘Proximity Glow’ and ‘Fibre Grass’.
‘Many Hands’ illustrated the phrase “Many hands make light work”, with the projected image revealed as more and more members of the Elephant & Castle community stood together side by side. ‘Proximity Glow’ saw parts of plants and trees start to glow brighter as visitors got closer to different segments of the installation. And ‘Fibre Grass’ allowed visitors to change the colour of the grass by tweeting using a specific hashtag.
“The phrase ‘easier said than done’ has never felt more real – Elephant Glow was a steep learning curve for all of us as our first commission as LCC Graduates. We were very grateful for and ecstatic with what we produced,” said Rosie Allen, BA (Hons) Interaction Design Arts graduate.
“Elephant Glow delivered a vast pool of visitors, responses, and new challenges which we can’t wait to move forward with onto our next project!
“Most importantly, Elephant Glow brought the families, students, workers and residents of the Elephant and Castle community and beyond to play and discover the Park.”

“Through their ongoing links with LCC as alumni, projects like Elephant Glow are a great opportunity for them to show the world their ideas and potential.”
